Christmas Eve Program Offering to Make-A-Wish

Please join us for our Christmas Eve program at 6:00 on Christmas Eve night!

The offering will go towards the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Last week, the foundation granted a wish for our very own Harper Parish. Harper’s wish was for a side-by-side vehicle, giving her the freedom to safely enjoy the outdoor adventures she loves.
Make-A-Wish has granted wishes to many children in our area and continues to provide strength, hope, and joy to children facing critical illnesses. These wishes offer a much-needed break from treatments and doctor visits, giving kids the chance to simply be kids again. Your generous donations help make these unique and life-changing wishes possible. Thank you for supporting Make-A-Wish and the incredible children they serve.

Please Keep the Family of Doug Zeeck in Your Prayers

Douglas Ray Zeeck, age 75, of rural Cavour, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at his home surrounded by family. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at Faith Alive Community Church in Huron, with burial at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Iroquois at 2:00 p.m. Visitation, with his family present, will be from 5-7 p.m., on Monday, September 8, 2025 at Faith Alive Community Church in Huron. A prayer service and time of sharing will begin at 6:30 on Monday evening at the church.

Douglas Ray Zeeck, son of Wayne and Velda (Peskey) Zeeck, was born on Nov. 11, 1949 in Huron, SD. He grew up on the family farm south of Cavour where he attended country school and graduated from Iroquois High School in 1967. Following high school, he attended DSU in Madison, SD and then returned to the family farm and joined the South Dakota National Guard.

On October 29, 1976, Doug married Mona (Moeller) Zeeck at Mt. Calvary Lutheran church in Huron SD. To this union two children were born: Derrick and Mindy. They lived and farmed in the rural Cavour area all their married life.

He was an active lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and a member of the church council. He was a long-time board member of the Cavour Farmers Elevator Co-op.

His love of farming was matched only by his love for his grandchildren. We were blessed to watch him harvest his last crop of corn in 2024, but he found the greatest joy in watching the next generation take the reins. He led his family well by the way he lived his life day to day and interacted with family and neighbors. Many Sunday afternoons were spent playing cards and games after church with his family and hanging out with his grandkids. He enjoyed watching basketball and listening to a good sermon on the laptop.

He is survived by his wife, Mona of rural Cavour; his mother, Velda Zeeck of Huron; son, Derrick (Carla) Zeeck of Sioux Falls, daughter, Mindy (Bryan) Eden of rural Alpena, 9 grandchildren, Caden Zeeck, Addison Zeeck, both of Sioux Falls, Brylee (Will) Smith of Watertown, Bryson Eden, Benton Eden, Breah Eden, Bridger Eden, Briggs Eden, and Betsie Eden all of Alpena; sisters Sandy (Darwin) Cundy of Iroquois and Tari (Nick) Heitmann of Lake City, SD; brothers-in-law Dan (Cyndi) Moeller and  Darwin (Jean) Moeller, sisters-in-law Marla Moeller and Denise Zeeck; and many nieces and nephews.

Doug was preceded in death by his father in 2010 and brother Marty Zeeck in 1998; grandparents Paul and Stella Zeeck and Anna and Oscar Peskey.
